2026 Iowa Session Bill tracking

Talking Points on Introducing yourself to your legislators.

With the commencement of the 2026 Iowa Legislative Session on January 12, we encourage all MII members to reach out to your legislators and introduce yourself as a champion of the masonry industry. Establishing this relationship early is valuable—if issues arise during the session, your Senator or Representative will already know who you are and the industry you represent. Below is a customizable email to use.

DRAFT LETTER TO YOUR LEGISLATOR:

Dear Legislator Name:

My name is [Your Name], and I am a constituent who currently resides in your district.  I am writing to introduce myself and express my interest in policy issues related to the construction industry, specifically masonry. I currently (list out how you are in the masonry industry).

If you are not familiar with masonry industry in Iowa, it includes brick, block, natural stone, and cast stone— and plays a critical role in Iowa’s infrastructure, commercial development, historic preservation, and workforce development. Masonry is local – from brick, block and mortar manufacturers along with contractors across the state.

I appreciate the important work you do representing our district, and I would welcome any opportunity to support or contribute to the legislative effort, including the challenges and opportunities facing the construction sector in our area if the need should arise. I’d also like to stay informed about any relevant legislation or initiatives related to infrastructure investment, building codes, workforce development, etc.

As a part of Iowa’s masonry construction industry, and I’m reaching out to ask for your support on policies that strengthen our workforce and infrastructure. I look forward to staying in touch and being an active participant in our democratic process.
